Welcoming a new puppy into your home is an exciting and rewarding experience. Small Door Veterinary’s Puppy Playgroup provides a structured, safe environment where puppies can develop essential social skills under professional supervision.

What Is a Puppy Playgroup?
Small Door’s Puppy Playgroup is a complimentary socialization session designed for puppies between 9-16 weeks of age. This developmental window is a crucial period when puppies learn how to interact with other dogs, read body language, and build positive associations with new experiences. Our playgroups offer a safe and controlled space for puppies to practice these skills, ensuring they grow into well-adjusted adult dogs.
Why is Socialization So Important?
Socialization is more than just playtime—it’s a foundational part of your puppy’s behavioral development. Here’s why these sessions are so valuable:
Confidence Building: Meeting other puppies helps reduce fear and anxiety in new situations, making your pup more adaptable in the future.
Positive Interactions: Learning proper play etiquette with dogs of different sizes and temperaments helps prevent behavioral issues like reactivity or fearfulness.
Controlled Environment: Unlike dog parks, where interactions can be unpredictable, our playgroups ensure a safe, clean space where puppies can interact under supervision.
Energy Outlet: Puppies have lots of energy! Regular play sessions can help prevent destructive behaviors at home by giving them a healthy way to burn off some steam.
Preparation for Vet Visits & Grooming: Getting used to new places, sounds, and people makes future visits to the vet or groomer less stressful.
What to Expect
At Small Door, our playgroups are open to puppies who meet certain health requirements, including at least one round of core vaccinations, deworming, and a negative fecal test. We ensure that all puppies in attendance are at a similar stage of vaccination to minimize health risks. Puppy sizes and temperaments may vary, but every session is monitored to keep playtime safe and fun for all.
